The extraordinary wisdom of King Solomon, Part 2

The extraordinary wisdom of King Solomon, Part 2 How to continue our research on the biblical concept of wisdom, we need to examine briefly some steps closely related to the concept of knowledge of the heart. For now we see, the Bible teaches that true wisdom flourishes only in the heart of a person who shows a tendency to look for the good of others. First, I look at 1 Kings 3:5-15: In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream during the night, and God said, Ask what I intend to give. And Solomon said. . . Your servant is in the midst of your people that you have chosen, a great nation that can not be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore your servant understanding heart to judge your people, who can disce between good and evil, to be able to judge this thy people so great? And the speech pleased the Lord. . . and God said to him, because he was asked and not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked for the life of your enemies, you've asked for thyself understanding to disce sentence: I here I have done according to your words: Behold, I have given you a good understanding and a heart, so there is one you like you, neither after thee shall be as if any arise. And I have also given what you have not asked, both riches and honor: so that there should be among the kings like you all day. And if on foot, on my way to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen your days. Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream. . . In this regard, we note that the request of Solomon receives various names: 1. understanding heart to judge your people 2nd understanding to disce 3 ruling. [which means] to walk the ways of God to keep [its] laws and commandments 4th Solomon calls the gift of verse 28: "the wisdom of God, for the process." In other words, Solomon had asked for the ability to judge correctly in difficult cases, to disce between good and evil in the lives of many and often complicated situations, so as to be able to impose the proper rewards and punishments as any judge in Israel. Solomon had wisdom as a means of obtaining justice in society - or of national justice. That satisfied Lord.Even Mr. Solomon, the young man that God gives wisdom to 1. Glorify God 2nd benefit of others. Wisdom is not "knowing for the sake of knowing", but to make the law of the Lord, for those who like to do and what is right.1-34And Kings 4:29 God gave Solomon wisdom and higher understanding and the width of the heart, although the sand that lies on the seashore. And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all children in this country, and the wisdom of Egypt. For he was the wisest of all men, that Ezrahite Ethan, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame is in all nations around. ... And all the people came to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.Remember, Solomon asks God for a wise and understanding heart, and now we have leaed that as part of this prayer to God (the call to God in a dream is a prayer), God gave Solomon extraordinary breadth of the heart. "Note: The common denominator here. We can deduce from this conceptual overlay that has a heart wise and understanding, the man must have "width of the heart." But what is this? This term refers to a heart full of love, or what some called "generous." The Bible often refers to (figuratively) as a "good eye", or "open hand". In this case, we have leaed a very important point about the history of Solomon - Love is the better part of wisdom. The rest of the Scriptures, including the conduct of this point, although not usually in such bold relief. Moreover, depending on how it is applied, non-profit organization has many labels - that is, depending on what aspect of the charity wants to highlight. Mercy, the most important of all aspects of the Bible nonprofit, is also aware of several colleagues: patience, kindness, gentleness and meekness. Each represents an aspect of charity.Next see that the Bible is a charitable organization called "Justice" - a number of so-called "justice", "text" or plural "statutes or judgments, laws or precepts of the Lord. The effective implementation of the law of God - the source of the wisdom of God to men the Holy Spirit is called "justice." Justice is truth in the proper execution. Here, "properly applied" is used for profit or biblical mercy. Thus, in the Bible, we lea that compassion (charity) and justice (truth) are the two fundamental wisdom.Deuteronomy 4:5-8 says that God's law is the foundation of all wisdom of the national justice: "Behold I [Moses] have shown that the statutes and judgments, even as the Lord my God commanded me, you do in the land where you go to possess it. Therefore, to maintain and do the same, this is your wisdom and understanding in the eyes of the nations who are all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a people wise and understanding. What nation is so great that God is so close to them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call him? And what is so great nation, that has statutes and judgments so righteous, as all that I have set before you today right? Reyes now, more than any other category of people (for them is the task of administering justice), the Bible calls the exercise of charity, mercy and sentence, and in their personal affairs. This custom of kings generosity expressed in the language of the Bible, "according tot he generosity of a king." King Xerxes is an example of charity, this man in the book of Esther: Esther 1:4-5For complete 180 days where you demonstrates the wealth of his kingdom and the splendor and glory of his majesty. When these days, the king gave a banquet, lasting seven days, in the garden of the palace of the king, for less than all the individuals that were in the citadel of Susa. ... The wine was served in goblets of gold, each different from the others, and a lot of real wine, in accordance with the king of the donation. For the command of the king, each guest was allowed to drink in their own way for the king instructed all the wine stewards to serve each man what wished. And again, Esther 2:17-18 says: And King loved Esther above all women, and has obtained the grace and grace in his sight more than all the virgins in order to put the crown on his head, and made queen instead of Vashti. Then the king made a great feast for all his princes and his servants, including the Esther, and he made a statement to the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the state of king.1 Corinthians 8:1 says that the function key associated with the charity comes from his car to build the kingdom of Christ in the person of the saints, the Christians, saying: "puffeth knowledge, but a non-profit edifieth." 1 Corinthians 13:12-14 is added to this looks like a number of other charities in these words: Charity suffereth long and is kind, love does not envy; vaunteth love, is not in itself, is not puffed up, Charity never faileth ... And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three, but the greatest of these is charity. The Solomonic wisdom of proverbs, and the Lord Jesus, according to Paul in the evaluation of love (or mercy): Proverbs 19: 11 - - The discretion of a man deferreth his anger and his glory is to pass on a transgression.Proverbs 19:17 - He who has pity on the poor lendeth to the Lord and what he has to pay him again. Proverbs 20:28 - Mercy and truth preserve the king and his throne is upholden by mercy.Proverbs 21:21 - He who follows after the justice and mercy finds life, justice, and honour.Proverbs 22:9 -- One who has a wealth of eye will be blessed, because it gives the bread to poor.Matthew 6: 22-23 - The light of the body is the eye if your eye, therefore, be a [pure], all the Your body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! Matthew 7: 1-5Judge not, that will not be judged. Like her, the court ruling, you will be judged, and with what measure you get, it will be measured back to you. And why is beholdest the speck that is in your brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in your eye? Or how you want to say to your brother, let me remove the speck from your eye, and behold, a beam in your eye? You hypocrite, first cast the beam from your eye, and then you will see clearly to cast promote eye. Here from your brother, the Lord reminds us to judge others as you want to be judged, charitable - with justice and charity -- not only for justice in the rough, or worse, by an unjust rule. And again, what kind of eye is the brother or next to determine if you have "light" - a metaphor for wisdom. A good eye, or part of charity toward others involved in the wisdom of men, a bad eye - a disregard for others, involves the darkness of the soul, the madness of heart. The Question and Answer # 144, Westminster Larger Catechism correctly and the links to the charity that is required from the ninth commandment, "Do not bear false witness against your neighbor"? Q144. What are the tasks referred to in the ninth commandment? A. The tasks required are the ninth commandment, the protection and promotion of truth between man and man, and the good name of our neighbor, as well as ours, which is standing and the truth and sincerely from the heart, freely, so clearly and fully, telling the truth, and only the truth in matters of trial and justice, and all the other things, an estimate charities of our neighbors, lovers, who want and joy in your good name, I am sorry, and coverage of their illnesses, freely recognizing their gifts and graces, defending their innocency; ready to receive a good report, and a reluctance to recognize the evil of a report about them, discouraging tale-bearers , flatterers, and slander, love and care for our good name, and the defense, when you need requireth; keeping promises legal study and practice of some of the things that are true, honest, charming and good report . The Westminster divine have here a very good answer to the question in terms of the whole Bible in the light of truth research, which necessarily includes the love of truth. More than a precision required.Proverbs 10: 12 - Odio stirreth strife, but love covers [More] all sins.Proverbs 11:17 a.m. - Man's soul is not merciful, but that is cruel troubleth flesh. Now mercy of proverbs begins with empathy. It seeks the good of others, who want to succeed and prosper in all that is good for them and for others. These are the needs of others, their defects, and aspires to meet their needs - to see others succeed. Mercy is the essence of a "good eye". Synonyms in the Bible is the compassion, mercy, goodness, gentleness, kindness, compassion, charity and love - or the possession of a large heart.Let therefore conclude this segment of our study of the wisdom of Solomon A example of charity in the wise administration of justice, 2 Samuel 16:5-11: "And when King David came to Bahurim, behold, there came a man of the family, the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei son of Gera: he went out, and cursed as yet arrived. And he threw stones at David, and all the servants of King David, and all persons and all the men were in their right hand and left. Thus Shimei said when he cursed, salt, salt, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial: the Lord has retued all the blood of the house of Saul, which has reigned place, and the Lord has given the kingdom on hand of Absalom thy son: and behold, you have taken your evil, for you are a fucking man. Then said Abishai the son of King Zeruiah why this dead dog curse my lord the king? I want to go, please, and remove the head. And the king said, "What should I do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? so I curse, because the Lord said to him, Curse David. Those who say, have you done? And David said to Abishai and all his servants, "Behold, my son, who went out of my body, looking for my life: how much more now that Benjamite do it? leave it alone and let him curse, because the Lord has ordained it. "Here is an example of love of King David in the process. As the son of Abishai asks Zeruiah the death penalty for cursing the King - Under the Law of the Lord - David wisely postponing his anger at the situation immediately recognize the hand of the Lord, as the wise woman had taught him long ago by Abigail do in case of Nabal. Now, Solomon, as we shall see, has received instructions from King David, when he went to his death, in order to ensure that Solomon held the law of the Lord against Shimei (1 Kings 2: 8-9) -- Do not let a peaceful death, die of natural causes - that Solomon "according to his wisdom." What I do to Shimei Solomon? Here is the biblical account (1 Kings 2:36-46): Then the king sent for Shimei and said: "Build your house in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go anywhere else. On the day of departure and cross the Kidron Valley, you can be sure that he will die, their blood will be on his own head. "Shimei answered the king:" What you say is good. Your servant will do as my lord the king said. " Shimei stayed in Jerusalem, and for a long time. But three years later, two of the slaves of Shimei ran Achish son Maacah, king of Gath, and Shimei, he said, 'Your slaves are Gath. "This is a loaded his donkey and went to Gath in Achish for their slaves. So Shimei went and brought the slaves of Gath. Shimei When Solomon was told that he went from Jerusalem to Gath and had retued, the king summoned Shimei and said, "Do not you swear to the Lord and wa, 'The day you leave to go elsewhere instead, it can be sure that is going to die? At that time she told me, 'What you say is good. I obey. "Why not keep the oath to the Lord and obey the order I gave you? "The king also told Shimei," You know in your heart all the evil you have done to my father David. Now the Lord give you your offense. But King Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David will remain secure before the Lord forever. "Then the king gave the order to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he was beaten and killed Shimei and him.Now mind, we can lea some important points about the wisdom of Solomon. First, Solomon extended great love Shimei allowing life to continue (perhaps indefinitely), but the boundaries of Jerusalem alone. Shimei had to endure at least some punishment.Second, Shimei placed under oath, with the breaking of which perish Shimei, Solomon prepared for the situation that would lead to a mutual decision (law of retaliation, the biblical basis of justice) to Shimei. Shimei had cursed King David, and now, if violated his oath, Shimei death by a self-imposed as a result of breaking his oath curse - a curse for a curse.Third, Solomon left the execution time until trust God - as did David - that God would deal the matter in its calendar. Solomon, like David, postponed his anger, as the proverbs suggest. This is the patience of charity.Fourth, slaves of Shimei fled. Why? Most likely because Shimei is a tyrant. We see this trend already in the same offense that had trouble with the king, in the first place - that David took advantage of difficult times. When David was at a low point - guided by God - irreverently most Shimei threw stones at King David and his men to add to their problems and great anguish. That was brutal. Shimei was a person who brutally crush the spirit of the oppressed by David and reveling in the difficulty of David (so to speak) on his face rubbing it.Fifth note that the slaves of Shimei ran to Gath, one of the five Philistine capital of the Empire, and the home of the giant Goliath - which was Shimei Cursed King David. Shimei traded (or sold) his oath - something sacred to the Lord - for the maintenance of his slaves, who in the ancient world was a little 'money. Shimei exchanged saint as is common - the essence of the biblical concept of profanity. The Lord Jesus said: "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." The Punchline is: Shimei lived in Jerusalem - the capital of Israel (the holy nation) - but his heart was in Gath, the capital of the nation, the best example of the enemies of God and Israel. The Holy Spirit, therefore, meant that it was a philistine Shimei in the heart - as a tyrant who despised cursed King David and Goliath, which was a type or an image of Jesus Christ, the Lord. Shimei by this blasphemy and paid with his life, as Goliath had.Now Shimei the serious lack of charity (contempt) to King David to come back to haunt you. In this case, God himself is the principle of Lex Talionis against Shimei. Shimei tyranny of his slaves to bring the curse of the King - David King, represented by his son Solomon. Thus, Solomon had achieved the perfect balance of mercy and justice, patience and wisdom of the right of retaliation. To behave in a way is to act as the Lord will always remember the mercy of the test. Because God is a God of wisdom indescribable: solemn justice, and the amplitude of extravagant heart.Praise the Lord, He is good for his mercy lasts forever.Carson days has written approximately 1.3 gazillion articles and essays, with insightful, if alteative view.
